"Cascade"
In this painting of the kingfisher I wanted to focus on the jewel-like brightness of their feathers. The contrast of russet orange, pure white, and that lovely aquamarine blue makes these such distinctive birds.
I was alerted to the kingfisher's return to our river by their distinctive call. Once heard - a distinctive 'kli kli kli kli' - it is easily recognised. This summer, I heard the sound and quickly turned to see one flashing past.
They will often head up the river during the summer months, and I have learned to come and walk here on quiet mornings to see if I can catch a glimpse of them.
This is such a typtical view of the kingfisher - perched on a branch, shaking out cascades of water from beak and feathers. Seeing this private moment is like being involved in a living moment of grace!
