The common blackbird is usually the herald of the dawn chorus each morning, and is certainly heard a lot throughout the day and into the evening.
It is a true 'songbird' - its vast range of melodies and calls are almost impossible to mimic.
 
I completed this pair of paintings in the summer of 2024. The blackbirds began to flock to our garden, as they do every year, when the berries ripen: from red currants to raspberries, and blackberries to blueberries, we have a yearly tussle with them to get at least some of our berry crop before they do!
 
But I always end up laughing as they chatter and sing victoriously after successfully plundering our fayre!
 
The original painting is watercolour infused with flower essences and sprinkled with AquaBronze powder.
