We have lived in a particular valley in Lake District for 25 years, but only rarely seen barn owls. In the past two years, however, we have been blessed to have a pair come to live in a barn close by and raise their young.
They are such beautiful birds. Seeing them hunting in the valley in an evening - ghostly forms flitting through the valley - feels like a blessing. Something wild and true returning. On the odd occasion, they have even come to swoop through our garden.
This painting is based on a photograph by Gill Merritt, with her kind permission.
Original watercolour painting, infused with flower essences, finished with AquaBronze gold and copper. On Bockingford cold press paper 300gsm.
