’Conducting the Wind’
Watercolour painting of Grey Heron on 300gsm 100% cotton watercolour. 2026.
Size of painted area: 41 ×51cm (16×20”)
Herons have become important birds for me on my journey as a wildlife artist. I find myself drawn back to them time and again, pulled by their enormous size, and the strange combination of awkwardness and elegance that they embody.
This painting captures the heron coming to land on the water in the rain, caught in the gentle light of late afternoon. Powerful, stealthy, assured. A moment of poetry and light.
Framed in white solid wood St Ives frame
