’Sovereign Flight’
Watercolour painting of Marsh Harrier on 300gsm 100% cotton watercolour.
24×20”
The Marsh Harrier has long been one of my favourite birds of prey. I first saw one thirty years ago, and the sight of this striking bird coasting languidly over an expanse of green reeds, fluid and agile in its movements, has never left me.
I have spent the past year visiting our local reserve to watch this bird through the seasons. Once a summer migrant, it is now resident in some parts of the UK. The sight of it always draws gasps. Large, richly coloured (especially the male) and often seen flying at eye level, it is unmistakable - and compelling.
This painting captures that fleeting moment when a male marsh harrier descends to the ground, wings outstretched.
Framed in deep blue-grey solid wood St Ives frame.
